Medical science is
constantly studying heart disease, evolving newer methods of

The 192 slice
Multidetector Cardiac CT launched by GE healthcare is a
breakthrough in investigative technology. It provides
unprecedented coverage enabling one to visualize the vessels
of the heart in just 5 seconds! Other multislice scanners
require the patient to hold breath for at least 15-20
seconds causing inaccuracies to creep into the visualization
and calculations.

CORONARY CT
ANGIOGRAM--- WHAT IS IT? HOW IS IT DONE?
On the 192 slice
volume CT this is done by injecting contrast into a small
peripheral vein, which is safe, painless and involves no
patient discomfort. Its use is already been established in
major centers all over the world as a diagnostic tool in
studying coronary arterial and cardiac anatomy. It can be
used as: -
· A
screening procedure. It is highly accurate and is able to
find out normal and diseased coronary arteries with great
precision.
· To
study patients with chest pain and to rule out non-cardiac
causes.
· To
evaluate coronary arteries after procedures like bypass
surgery angioplasty/ stents.
IS THIS SCANNER ONLY
FOR CARDIAC USES OR ANYTHING ELSE?
No, not at all.
Although developed primarily as a tool for studying (
paralysis of one side of the body) due to blockage of the
brain arteries, the better are the chances of recovery. The
Light Sped 192 slice MDCT assesses reduction in blood flow to
the specific area of the brain and with appropriate therapy
the paralysis can be either totally cured or at least
partially reversed.
Features like virtual
colonoscopy and bronchoscopy have removed the discomfort and
time involved with these procedures when done with scopes.
Dentascane is a feature of immense value in aiding dental
implants accurately.
In addition to all
this routine CT scans are now done at lightning speeds and
never before accuracy.

obtained. Usually oral and injectable iodinated dyes have to

Preparation Instructions: A minimum of four hours fasting is
necessary for most CT scan procedures.

Report Given: Same day if the study is done before 12 noon,
otherwise the next day.

Cardiac CT

with a beta-blocker
